Effect A coin disappears from the magicians hand. Solution Although the French Drop is a classic sleight and can be used to vanish a wide variety of small objects it has one drawback. It does not look very natural. Learn the French Drop because you will find it a useful thing to know. But try this more natural version as well. This time hold the coin in your left thumb and finger but with the coin flat against the finger (1). This is a more natural position than that used in the French Drop. Do not tell the spectators what you are going to do. Bring the right fingers towards the coin. The first and second fingers go in front of the coin, concealing it from the audience's view, the thumb goes behind it (2). Secretly drop the coin from the left fingers into the left palm (3). Remove the right fingers as though holding the coin and draw the attention of your audience by asking them to keep an eye on 'this coin'. Look at the right hand as you say this (4). Move the right hand towards the spectators as if offering them a better view of the coin. At the same time allow the left hand to fall naturally to the side. Put the coin in a convenient pocket. The right hand now places the imaginary coin on your left palm as you ask your audience again to watch closely. Close the left hand around the imaginary coin. Allow the right hand to be seen empty. Pause for a second or two. With the right forefinger point at the left hand. Slowly open the fingers of the left hand. The coin has vanished much to the amazement of your audience.
